Ethics and Professionalism in CYC (CYWK 2001)

Students explore self-awareness through discovery and analysis of personal values, beliefs, biases and child and youth care (CYC) ethical principles. The ecological perspective is incorporated and emphasizes the child and youth care practitioner’s connection to self, community and the larger society. Students learn about setting and maintaining boundaries and understanding transference/counter-transference. Professional practices are examined in regards to cultural, ethical, legal, environmental and gender issues that relate to the child and youth care field. Students develop strategies to assess their own readiness for field placement including a summary of skills, abilities, self-care strategies, roles and responsibilities and paperwork required for the field placement experience.
