Equity and Inclusion in CYC Professional Practice (CYWK 2004)

Students explore social issues facing children and youth from diverse families with a concentration on BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Colour) communities in Canada. In addition, students explore other areas of equity and inclusion including but not limited to, mobility issues, exceptionalities, LGBTQ2SIA+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans (transgender, transsexual, trans-identified, genderqueer, non-binary), queer, two-spirit, intersex and asexual, plus - in respect of other identities not represented by the acronym) and racialized communities. Learners incorporate the developmental-ecological perspective when considering issues affecting diverse families and examine culturally sensitive strategies to support children, youth, and families. Students integrate this knowledge in the building of respectful relationships, communication, and developmental practice methods.
