Supportive Counselling (DEVS 2015)

Students examine the theory, skills and qualities of a professional helping relationship. Emphasis is placed on the values that form the foundation of a client-centered, strengths-based and ecological approach to supportive counselling, including respect, genuineness, empathy and empowerment. The significance and impact of relationships, processes of problem-management, crisis management, coping strategies, goal setting and implementation are examined. Opportunities for practice and self-reflection are provided.
