Canine Behavior 104 – Canine Territorial Guarding (GINT 0223)
Territorial response behaviours include harmless alert barking to aggressive displays including attack behaviours leading to serious injuries. Participants review the process of domestication and selective breeding. They discuss which dogs may be best suited to urban and family environments and how to work with a dog’s natural tendencies to reduce the risk of injury and legal liability. Participants identify the early signs of territorial behaviour in young dogs that are often either dismissed or confused with a fear response. Participants learn how develop a management program best suited for the individual dog and their unique living situation. It is recommended that participants take Canine Basic Behavior 101 prior to this course.
