Foundations of Critical Care Nursing and Special Populations (RNRS 1075)

This course is designed to help students develop the knowledge and skills to understand the delivery of quality patient care in the critical care setting. Students explore the importance of establishing and maintaining therapeutic relationships, advocating for the delivery of family centred care in life threatening situations, and caring for special populations and patients at end of life. The complexities and issues in nursing as they relate to critical care, standards for critical care nursing practice and professional practice are examined, as well as strategies related to self-care. Students use evidence-based research and best practice guidelines to inform their critical care nursing practice.
